ITEC 4838 - Ethical HackingCredit Hours: 3
The course will be designed to provide students with an understanding of the skills required to carry out ethical hacking and penetration testing of networks. The goal of this testing is to find flaws in the network in order to create a more secure system. Students will learn the theory behind ethical hacking and develop skills through practical applications.
Students will learn about the five phases of ethical hacking:
1.Reconnaissance-learning about the target network to identify how it is designed and protected
2.Scanning-finding weaknesses of the targeted network and developing a plan to exploit those vulnerabilities
3.Gaining access to networks-carrying out an attack to get into the network
4.Maintaining access-keeping access open and creating additional access points to prevent the network defenses from stopping the intrusion
5.Covering tracks-avoiding detection while the tester gathers information from within the network
