Business Administration, MBA with Certificate Start

This plan leads to the Master of Business Administration. The degree requires a minimum of 36 hours: eight required courses (24 hours) and four elective courses (12 hours). Depending on a student’s academic background, an additional foundation course (3 hours) may be required.

The innovative MBA with Certificate Start offers students a unique opportunity to complete both an MBA and a specialized graduate certificate, providing a flexible and dynamic approach to graduate education. This program allows students to enhance their skill set and marketability through a certificate in a specialized area of interest while completing their MBA degree.

The MBA with Certificate Start has greater flexibility in entry requirements, with standardized test waiver criteria which differ from the traditional MBA program. This allows admitted students to demonstrate their success in a graduate certificate program before beginning their MBA coursework. This program empowers students to maximize their graduate education, making it highly adaptable to their evolving aspirations and helping them graduate well-prepared for a leadership role in their chosen fields.

Students begin in an approved graduate certificate program.

Grade Requirements


The College of Business requires a minimum of a 3.000 cumulative grade point average is required on course work taken at UHCL. No grade lower than a C is acceptable toward a graduate degree; this includes foundation work as well as the plan requirements. Grades of C- or lower are not acceptable.

Commercialization of Space Certificate


Houston is the hub of human space flight.  A student completing this concentration should be able to identify, propose, advocate for the adoption of, and lead others on profit-potential projects for the space industry.  Students completing this degree should be candidates for employment in business development, strategic planning, and managerial positions in organizations active in space, or space-adjacent commerce.
