Commercialization of Space Graduate Certificate

This certificate is available to students in the MBA certificate start program.  It is also available to non-degree seeking students.

 

Houston is the hub of human space flight.  A student completing this concentration should be able to identify, propose, advocate for the adoption of, and lead others on profit-potential projects for the space industry.  Students completing this degree should be candidates for employment in business development, strategic planning, and managerial positions in organizations active in space, or space-adjacent commerce.

 

At the end of this concentration, a successful student should be able to:

  • Explain the differences between regular commerce, Earth’s orbital environment including terrestrial space commerce (satellite and telecom), in-space experimentation and development, and “non-automated and beyond” business sectors.
  • Recognize the national and international government, NGO, and business stakeholders active in commercial aerospace and accurately describe and detail the issues facing these stakeholders and each stakeholder’s interest in those issues.
  • Describe the differes netween NASA and commercial enterprise ways of doing business, including revenue and funding sources as well as other business model concerns. B2B and B2G business models
  • Develop advocacy plans to advance business relationships with government entities and large industry contractors.
  • Explain the history and achievements in space development, extravehicular activity, space flight, lunar exploration, space stations, future space habitats.
  • Recognize financial considerations of operating in space.
  • Be able to discuss emerging commercial space opportunities and risks.
