Healthcare Services, B.A.S. Degree Map 

The Dual Degree Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Healthcare Administration (M.H.A.) or Master of Healthcare Administration/Master of Business Administration (M.H.A./M.B.A.) program is designed for focused undergraduate students who are committed to leadership careers in healthcare management. This plan provides a streamlined path to graduate study, enabling students to develop the competencies necessary for effective decision-making and leadership in healthcare organizations and systems.

Students may select either the M.H.A. or the M.H.A./M.B.A. as their graduate pathway. The Dual Degree plan accelerates completion of both degrees and offers a competitive edge in the job market.

Students must apply to the appropriate graduate program (M.H.A. or M.H.A./M.B.A.) by the first semester of their senior year.

Graduate Admission Requirements

To qualify for admission into the M.H.A. or M.H.A./M.B.A. program:

  • Students must have a cumulative UHCL GPA of 3.0 or higher or 2.5 or higher for the launch track programs.

The B.A.S. will not be awarded until all graduate program requirements are completed. 

Students not admitted into the graduate portion of the program will continue in the traditional B.A.S. in Healthcare Services track and proceed to graduation.

Dual Degree B.A.S./M.H.A.-M.B.A.: 120 hours undergraduate + 51 hours graduate coursework

Communication (6 hours)

Life and Physical Sciences (6 hours)

Language, Philosophy and Culture (3 hours)

American History (6 hours)


Choose TWO courses from the UHCL core approved list.   

Government/Political Science (6 hours)

Component Area Option (6 hours)


Choose SIX hours from the UHCL core approved list.  

  • Two 1-hour Life and Physical Science Labs are required co-requisites for the chosen science courses. 

Major Requirements (27 hours) *


The following courses, or their approved equivalents, together with accounting and economics principles and business law, constitute the Business Core and are required of all business students. All courses within the Major Requirements must be completed with a grade of C- or better. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is required to graduate.

Any three upper-level (33XX or 43XX) courses offered by Colleges of Business, Human Sciences and Humanities, Science & Engineering, or Education

Graduation Requirements


  • Students must complete the final 30 semester hours of 3000- and 4000-level coursework in residence at UHCL.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours of upper-level (3000-4000 level) coursework: (1) in the major and (2) in residence at UHCL.
  • Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.000 on coursework completed at UHCL with grades of “C” or better on at least 30 hours of resident upper-level work. Grades of “C-” or below cannot be applied toward the 30 hours of resident upper-level work.
