The Master of Science in Management Information Systems prepares advanced technology leaders to design, manage, and optimize the data driven systems that support modern organizations. Students develop the strategic, analytical, and technical skills needed to guide digital transformation and make informed, high impact decisions.


The graduate coursework blends business strategy with advanced information systems training in areas such as enterprise architecture, data governance, cloud computing, machine learning applications, and IT project leadership. The program emphasizes applied analytics, intelligent automation, applied AI, and the design of scalable enterprise solutions.


This comprehensive preparation equips graduates for leadership roles including IT manager, artificial intelligence architect, enterprise systems analyst, data strategy consultant, and digital transformation specialist across industries such as healthcare, energy, finance, and global supply chain.


The Management Information Systems major leads to a Master of Science degree. The degree requires a minimum of 30 credit hours, including eight required courses (24 hours) and two elective courses (6 hours). Depending on a student’s academic background, one additional foundation course (3 hours) may be required.


Master of Science in Management Information Systems applicants meeting all the following criteria will qualify for the waiver of the six hours of elective requirements, resulting in a 24-hour program:


1.    Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited U.S. institution.
2.    This bachelor’s degree must have been earned within the last 5 years and with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Grade Requirements


The College of Business requires a minimum of a 3.00 cumulative grade point average on course work taken at UHCL. No grade lower than a C is acceptable toward a graduate degree; this includes foundation work as well as the plan requirements.

Foundation Requirements (3 hours)


Foundation requirements may be waived for students with appropriate academic backgrounds.  ISAM 5030 - Fundamentals of Business Programming Applications is waived for students with six hours of college-level programming with grades of C or better.
