ECED 4342 - PK-3 Social Studies and Social Skills through Fine Arts

Credit Hours: 3 Lecture: 3 Lab: 0

This course emphasizes the integration of the Fine Arts and Social Studies in a curriculum that is rooted in the traditions of democratic, social justice, and place-based education. Fine Arts is a natural way for children to learn about social studies concepts such as self-concept, critical thinking, people, places, culture, history, and society. This course will cover curriculum planning, instructional activities and assessment techniques for developing social studies knowledge, citizenship and critical thinking skills along with an emphasis on sound practice and research-based strategies for teaching social studies for PK-3 students. Field experiences required.

Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education Program and successful completion of ECED 4303  or SPED 4321  , and ECED 4328 .
