LITR 3338 - Modern Fantasy Literature

This course surveys the development of the fantasy genre in English and American literature from its origins in the late 19th c., through the works of Tolkien and on to contemporary fantasy authors such as George R.R. Martin. The course also looks at the ways fantasy has proliferated into popular culture, especially roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons and computer gaming.
