Marketing is more than a job; it is a crucial business function. University of Houston Clear Lake’s Bachelor of Science in Marketing will provide you with the education that is necessary to succeed in advertising, event management, marketing research, public relations, social media and more. Discover the science and art of marketing strategy, while learning fundamental principles of advertising and promotion. Coursework in this degree program will provide you with opportunities to investigate and understand consumer behavior, take a deep dive into branding strategies, explore the many facets of promotion and marketing communications, and examine and assess logistics and marketing distribution channels.
The degree in Marketing leads to the Bachelor of Science. A minimum of 57 upper-level (33XXand 43XX) hours and a total of 120 hours are required for the baccalaureate degree

University Core Requirements (42 Hours)
Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)
Choose ONE course from the UHCL core approved list. - ECON 2301 recommended for this requirement. This course is required for all business majors.
Component Area Option (6 hours)
Choose SIX hours from the UHCL core approved list. - Two 1-hour Life and Physical Science Labs are required co-requisites for the chosen science courses.
Field of Study - Business Administration
Undergraduate Field of Study (24 hours) All courses in the Field of Study must be completed with a grade of “C-” or higher, unless a transfer student has completed their Business Administration and Management Field of Study at another Texas public institution. Additional Information
ECON 2301 (component 080) and MATH 1324 (component 020) are also recommended for Texas Common Core components. UHCL Designation
University of Houston-Clear Lake designates the following two courses as necessary to complete the Field of Study Business Core (27 Hours)
The following courses, or their approved equivalents, constitute the Business Core and are required of all business students. No more than six hours of grades in the range of D+, D or D- are permitted in upper-level (33XX and 43XX) Business Core Requirement. Major Requirements (18 hours)
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is required to graduate. Major Required Courses (12 hours)
The following four courses must be completed with a grade of C- or better. Major Electives (6 hours) Choose two courses from the list:
Choose 2 MKTG upper-level (33XX and 43XX) courses other than those already required above. Check with Academic Advising for any marketing courses not appearing on the list below. Elective Requirements (12 hours)
Choose 4 upper-level (33XX and 43XX) courses offered by Colleges of Business, Human Sciences & Humanities, Science & Engineering or Education Graduation Requirements
- Students must complete the final 30 semester hours of 3000- and 4000-level coursework in residence at UHCL.
- Students must complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours of upper-level (3000-4000 level) coursework: (1) in the major and (2) in residence at UHCL.
- Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.000 on coursework completed at UHCL with grades of “C” or better on at least 30 hours of resident upper-level work. Grades of “C-” or below cannot be applied toward the 30 hours of resident upper-level work.
