The objective of the Master of Science degree in Accounting is to provide a broad-based background in business and depth and breadth in accounting. This combination will provide students with a strong basis for exercising judgement in accounting-related decisions within managerial and professional positions and enhance career development. The program serves both working professionals and full-time students and satisfies the educational requirements to take the Texas Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination.

Students with a bachelor’s degree in any major are qualified to apply for the MS in Accounting program. Students who possess an undergraduate degree in accounting can complete the MS in Accounting degree program in as few as 30 credit hours. Students who enter the MS in Accounting program with an undergraduate business-related major outside of accounting will likely have satisfied the Business and Principles of Accounting I foundation requirements and thus can complete the degree in as few as 42 credit hours. Students who have not taken business courses may need to take 10 foundations courses and thus can complete the degree in 60 credit hours.

4/19/24- The following updates were made:

The Management Information Systems, M.S.   plan changed the gpa requirement from a “3.250 or greater” to “3.000 or greater” on option a of the standardized test waiver criteria option.   The change is effective for Spring 2025 admission.   

 

4/30/24- The following updates were made to the Business Administration, MBA  plan:

5/14/24- The course name and prerequisites for MKTG 5332  were updated.

 

5/21/24- The deadline to submit withdrawal appeals to the Office of the Registar changed from the close of the following long semester to 9 weeks (45 business days) of the last class day of the semester for which the student is appealing.  

 

5/24/24- The course name was updated for NURS 5060 .

 

6/11/24- DSCI 5132  replaced DSCI 5431  on the following plans:

6/18/24- International Admissions and Student Services  page was updated to include information on accepting the Duolingo English Test for English as a proficiency exam.

 

6/26/24- Department of Health, Human, and Biomedical Sciences was added to the catalog and assigned programs.  Department of Clinical Health and Applied Sciences changed it’s name to Department of Psychological and Behavioral Health Sciences and the description was updated and programs were updated.  PHYS 5431  was added as an active course.
