Nursing Education and Leadership, M.S.N

The graduate program in MSN Education and Leadership is designed for those who have earned a BSN degree. The MSN Education and Leadership degree prepares graduates for advanced roles in education and leadership in academic or clinical settings. The MSN Education and Leadership degree is designed to prepare graduates to assume advanced roles in education and to provide these graduates with the skills necessary to lead in a variety of academic and other healthcare settings, administration, and clinical practice. Graduates of the program are prepared for roles such as educators in nursing schools, Public/Community Health, Coordinator of Staff Development, hospital administrative leaders, nursing managers, and quality positions across diverse healthcare settings.

 

Timeframe for Program Application and the Admission Process

The BSN and License as a Registered Nurse in the United States are prerequisites for students who are admitted into a Nursing Education and Leadership degree. Entrance into the MSN also requires the submission of a résumé or Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a statement of career goals. All materials must be received by the application deadline so the applicant can be considered for admission. Only completed applications will be considered. The résumé or CV and statement of career goals should be uploaded or sent to the Office of Admissions, University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, TX  77058-1098. 

Applications are accepted for the fall and spring semesters and are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants have the responsibility to ensure that their application and supporting documents are submitted correctly. Application for admission into the MSN Program follows the same deadline as the UHCL graduate admissions dates. Applicants must complete and submit a university Application for Admission and all required fees and documents to the university’s Admission Office.

NURS 5060 Advanced Key Concepts of Pathophysiology, Physical Assessment, and Pharmacology  

NURS 5030 Advanced Nursing Research Advanced Nursing Research   

NURS 5032 Population Health  

NURS 5034 Development of Nursing Curriculum  

NURS 5036 Measurement and Evaluation in Nursing Education  

HADM 5033 Leadership of Organizations in Healthcare Administration  

NURS 5038 Theories and Methods of Teaching and Learning in Nursing  

HADM 5333 Healthcare Economics  

HADM 5432 Healthcare Predictive Analytics  

Total Number of Credits Required: 30

 

Progress Criterion

Grades in Pre-Requisite Courses: A graduate student needs to achieve a passing grade in a pre-requisite course to progress to the next course. Passing is considered a grade of “B” or higher. 

Grades in Required Courses: To progress toward a graduate degree in Nursing, students must successfully pass the clinical portion of all clinical/practicum courses, i.e. NURS 5038: Theories and Methods of Teaching and Learning in Nursing. In addition, students must earn a minimum grade of “B” in all courses required in the program. Grades of “B-” or below are not acceptable.

If a student receives a grade below a “B” in any course in the approved program of studies, this course must be repeated the next time it is offered. 

A course may be repeated only once in the program. 

Graduation Requirement: A graduate student must earn a cumulative course grade of “B” or higher in all courses to successfully complete the program.
