University Services

UHCL Libraries

The UHCL Libraries include the Alfred R. Neumann Library and the UHCL at Pearland Library. The libraries provide access to resources and services that support research and scholarship.

The libraries carry more than 350,000 print volumes and 400,000 eBooks, and provide online access to over 300 databases containing tens of thousands of publications, hundreds of thousands of academic videos, and millions of full-text articles. In addition to the library collections, UHCL students, faculty, and staff may locate and request items from UH and UH-Downtown through the library’s discovery engine OneSearch. Interlibrary Loan services are also available and can be used to obtain articles, books, and media from libraries across the nation.

UHCL librarians offer services to support students through every stage of the research process, from developing a research question to finding and evaluating information resources. Individual research assistance is available in-person, by phone, via text, and online through email, live chat, and Zoom.

The UHCL Libraries also foster successful research and learning by developing learning objects and providing classroom library instruction. The library website contains dozens of online research guides for specific UHCL programs and courses, which direct students to subject-specific resources and provide guidance in their use. Library instruction sessions are tailored to course content and develop student information literacy and searching skills.

The Alfred R. Neumann Library, named after the university’s founding chancellor, occupies approximately 80,000 square feet in the Bayou Building and contains collaborative study areas, quiet study areas and many technology-enhanced study rooms. Neumann Library houses computer workstations for student use as well as equipment for printing, scanning, and copying. Other Neumann Library features include the Active Learning Classroom, equipped with technology to facilitate hands-on learning, and the XR Lab, which provides students and faculty access to virtual and augmented reality technology.

The Alfred R. Neumann Library also houses the UHCL Archives & Special Collections, which includes the NASA Johnson Space Center History Collection, Human Space Flight Collection and the Clear Lake Area Collection. These materials are open for research to UHCL students, alumni, faculty, staff and the general public.

The UHCL at Pearland Library offers computer workstations, scanning equipment, and study spaces for students. The Pearland Library collection is oriented towards courses offered at the campus. Materials held at other UH-system libraries may be requested for pickup at Pearland Library.
