Freshman Admission Requirements

In addition to the UHCL General Admission requirements, the following additional criteria must be met for admission into the Mechanical Engineering Program:

Fall Semester Freshman students must be eligible to enroll in, or have college credit for, MATH 2412 , MATH 2413 , or MATH 2414 . For Spring Semester Admissions, Freshman students must be eligible to enroll in, or have college credit for,MATH 2413 , or MATH 2414 .

 

Requirements for Students from Other Institutions and current UHCL Students Seeking a Change of Major to Mechanical Engineering

To be considered for admission into the program, students must meet the GPA requirements shown in the table below and must have credit for (can include AP credit):

MATH 2413 - Calculus I  and MATH 2414 - Calculus II  

CHEM 1311 - General Chemistry I  and CHEM 1111 - Laboratory for General Chemistry I  

PHYS 2425 - University Physics l with Laboratory

Removed ENSC 4325 - Environmental Toxicology

3/20/24- The following content update was made to the Mechanical Engineering, B.S.  program admissions requirements:

  • Students without a class rank or Test scores will be reviewed based on the following process:
    • If a student meets UHCL assured admissions criteria AND has taken and passed with a “B” or higher Precalculus or Calculus in high school, they can be directly admitted to the Mechanical Engineering major. This also includes students who have early college or dual credit for MATH 2412 or 2413.
    • Students who meet UHCL assured admissions criteria but do NOT have the above-mentioned Math preparation can be admitted as pre-engineering.

 

3/28/24PHYS 2425  and PHYS 2426  were added to the Chemistry, B.S. Degree Map .

 

4/3/24- The following content updates were made:

Three credit hours and lecture contact hours were assigned to WRIT 3313 .

WRIT 3313   added toMathematical Science, Mathematics 7-12 Certification, B.A.   major requiremets.

MENG 3314  was removed as a prerequisite for MENG 4343 .  A grade of “C” or better was added to the remaining prerequisites for the course. 

 

4/11/24- Prerequisite content updates were made to the following courses:

CHEM 3310 CHEM 4311 CHEM 4312 CHEM 4315 CHEM 4321 , and CHEM 4322  

 

The following course had a name change updated in the catalog:

DASC 4301  Python Programming for Data Science changed to Introduction to Python for Data Science

 

The following course had the prerequisite updated to include the option of corequisite: 

BIOL 4241  Prerequisite or corequisite: BIOL 4344  or BIOL 4345  

 

4/12/24Computer Engineering, B.S.  update to major electives requirement from “9 hours of approved upper level CENG/CSCI are required” to “3 hours of approved upper-level CENG and 6 hours of approved upper level CENG/CSCI are required.” 

 

Mechanical Engineering, B.S.  admission table requirement for “All Others” was updated:

4/16/24- The following updates were made:

 

Course prerequisite for CHEM 4372  removed and Instructor Consent added. 

 

ACCT 4357  was added to the catalog.

 

The following courses had changes to the course name and description:

FINC 4356  and FINC 4376 .

 

4/17/24- TheInterdisciplinary Studies with a Major in Early Childhood Education-Educator of Young Children, B.A.S.  plan was updated to include the online option.

 

4/19/24- The following courses had changes to the course description; BIOL 2101 BIOL 2102 BIOL 2301 , and BIOL 2302  

 

5/1/24- HSAF 4300  was added to the catalog.

 

5/6/24- The course name and description for HIST 3329  were updated and approved by the THECB. 

 

5/8/24Environmental Science, B.S.  with Environmental Technolgoy Specialization had an update to course requirements; ENSC 3331 was removed and ENSC 4331 was added.

 

5/16/24- Additional update to the admission requirements for Mechanical Engineering, B.S.   plan.

 

5/21/24- The deadline to submit withdrawal appeals to the Office of the Registrar was changed from the close of the following long semester to 9 weeks (45 business days) of the last class day of the semester for which the student is appealing.

 

5/24/24- THECB approved the newly requested core courses.  The following courses were updated; HIST 2321   (Core 40), HIST 2322   (Core 40), ECED 1354   (Core 80),  TCED 1301   (Core 90) and updated SWRK 2361  to be overflow for (Core 90).  Programs were reviewed and updated between 5/24/24 - 8/6/24.

 

6/11/24- Directions on how to submit payment for the Apply Texas Application were updated on the  International Admissions and Programs  page and New Student Admissions  page.

 

6/12/24- Lecture and lab contact hours were updated for ENGR 2304 

 

6/18/24- International Admissions and Student Services  page was updated to include information on accepting the Duolingo English Test for English as a proficiency exam.

 

6/26/24- Physics, B.S.  was updated to include the following coures:

PHYS 4171PHYS 4172 PHYS 4173  

 

6/26/24- Department of Health, Human, and Biomedical Sciences was added to the catalog and assigned programs.  Department of Clinical Health and Applied Sciences changed it’s name to Department of Psychological and Behavioral Health Sciences and the description was updated and programs were updated.    

 

6/28/24- The 6-Drop Appeals Process  was updated to submit requests within 10 business days of receiving the initial decision. 

 

7/1/24- ARTS 1301 and SPCH 1311 were added back to the core curriculum as accepted as transfer courses, not currenlty offered at UHCL.  They were removed from the 2023-2024 catalog in error.

 

7/3/24- Verbiage regarding undergraduate enrollment in graduate course   was updated to align the two catalogs.

 

7/18/24- PSYC 4351  was added to the catalog. 

 

7/19/24- Updates were made to the University of Houston-Clear Lake Administration  page. 

 

7/24/24- EDUC 1100 was removed from the catalog.

 

8/30/24- Contact hours were updated for the following courses;
