Freshman Admission Requirements

In addition to the UHCL General Admission requirements, the following additional criteria must be met for admission into the Mechanical Engineering Program:

Fall Semester Freshman students must be eligible to enroll in, or have college credit for, MATH 2412 , MATH 2413 , or MATH 2414 . For Spring Semester Admissions, Freshman students must be eligible to enroll in, or have college credit for,MATH 2413 , or MATH 2414 .

 

Requirements for Students from Other Institutions and current UHCL Students Seeking a Change of Major to Mechanical Engineering

To be considered for admission into the program, students must meet the GPA requirements shown in the table below and must have credit for (can include AP credit):

MATH 2413  - Calculus I and MATH 2414  - Calculus II

CHEM 1311  - General Chemistry and CHEM 1111  - Laboratory for General Chemistry I

PHYS 2425  - University Physics l with Laboratory

The following content update was made to the Mechanical Engineering, B.S.   program admissions requirements:

  • Students without a class rank or Test scores will be reviewed based on the following process:
    • If a student meets UHCL assured admissions criteria AND has taken and passed with a “B” or higher Precalculus or Calculus in high school, they can be directly admitted to the Mechanical Engineering major. This also includes students who have early college or dual credit for MATH 2412 or 2413.
    • Students who meet UHCL assured admissions criteria but do NOT have the above-mentioned Math preparation can be admitted as pre-engineering.

PHYS 2425   and PHYS 2426  were added to the Chemistry, B.S. Degree Map .

 


4/3/24

 

The following content updates were made:

Three credit hours and lecture contact hours were assigned to WRIT 3313 .  

WRIT 3313   added to Mathematical Science, Mathematics 7-12 Certification, B.A.  major requiremets.

MENG 3314   was removed as a prerequisite for MENG 4343 .  A grade of “C” or better was added to the remaining prerequisites for the course. 


 

4/11/24

Prerequisite content updates were made to the following courses:

CHEM 3310 , CHEM 4311  , CHEM 4312  , CHEM 4315  , CHEM 4321  , and CHEM 4322  .

 

The following course had a name change updated in the catalog:

DASC 4301  Python Programming for Data Science changed to Introduction to Python for Data Science

 

The following course had the prerequisite updated to include the option of corequisite: 

BIOL 4241  Prerequisite or corequisite:  BIOL 4344 or BIOL 4345

Computer Engineering, B.S.  update to major electives requirement from “9 hours of approved upper level CENG/CSCI are required” to “3 hours of approved upper-level CENG and 6 hours of approved upper level CENG/CSCI are required.”
