Early Childhood: PreKindergarten - Grade 3 Alternate Teacher Certification

The Early Childhood: PreKindergarten - Grade 3 Alternate Teacher Certification is an option for teachers who hold a valid Texas teaching certificate in a certificate category found in Texas Administrative Code and have demonstrated understanding of preschool through third grade content knowledge. Candidates for this plan must complete 150 clock hours of Educator Preparation Program (EPP) coursework aligned to the EC: PK3 educator standards, including the Science of Teaching Reading (STR) standards. A clinical teaching or internship assignment is not required. In addition, candidates must pass the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities exam (160), the Early Childhood: PK3 exam (29.2), and the Science of Teaching Reading exam (293) to earn the EC-3 certification.
