Marketing, B.S. Degree Map  

Marketing is more than a job; it is a crucial business function. University of Houston Clear Lake’s Bachelor of Science in Marketing will provide you with the education that is necessary to succeed in advertising, event management, marketing research, public relations, social media and more. Discover the science and art of marketing strategy, while learning fundamental principles of advertising and promotion. Coursework in this degree program will provide you with opportunities to investigate and understand consumer behavior, take a deep dive into branding strategies, explore the many facets of promotion and marketing communications, and examine and assess logistics and marketing distribution channels.

The degree in Marketing leads to the Bachelor of Science. A minimum of 57 upper-level (33XXand 43XX) hours and a total of 120 hours are required for the baccalaureate degree

University Core Requirements (42 Hours)


Communication (6 hours)


Choose TWO courses from the UHCL core approved list.  

 

Mathematics (3 hours)


Choose ONE course from the UHCL core approved list.  

  • MATH 1324  recommended for this requirement.  This course is required for this major.

Life and Physical Sciences (6 hours)


Choose TWO courses from the UHCL core approved list.  

Language, Philosophy and Culture (3 hours)


Choose ONE course from the UHCL core approved list.  

Creative Arts (3 Hours)


Choose ONE course from the UHCL core approved list.  

American History (6 hours)


Choose TWO courses from the UHCL core approved list.  

Government/Political Science (6 hours)

Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)


Choose ONE course from the UHCL core approved list. 

  • ECON 2301  recommended for this requirement.  This course is required for all business majors.  

Component Area Option (6 hours)


Choose SIX hours from the UHCL core approved list.   

  • Two 1-hour Life and Physical Science Labs are reqyured co-requisites for the chosen science courses.

College Core Requirements (48 hours)


The following courses, or their approved equivalents, constitute the business core and are required of all business students. No more than 6 hours of grades in the range of D+, D or D- are permitted in upper-level Business Core Requirements.

Additional Information


  • When ECON 2301  is used to satisfy the Social Behavioral Sciences requirement, an additional elective will be needed.
  • MGMT 4312  requires permission. 

Major Requirements (18 hours)


A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is required to graduate.

The following four courses must be completed with a grade of C- or better.

Choose 2 MKTG upper-level (33XX and 43XX) courses other than those already required above. Check with Academic Advising for any marketing courses not appearing on the list below.

Elective Requirements (12 hours)


Choose 4 upper-level (33XX and 43XX) courses offered by Colleges of Business, Human Sciences & Humanities, Science & Engineering or Education

Graduation Requirements


  • Students must complete the final 30 semester hours of 3000- and 4000-level coursework in residence at UHCL.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours of upper-level (3000-4000 level) coursework: (1) in the major and (2) in residence at UHCL.
  • Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.000 on coursework completed at UHCL with grades of “C” or better on at least 30 hours of resident upper-level work. Grades of “C-” or below cannot be applied toward the 30 hours of resident upper-level work.
